Course On-Demand: Orientation to the Employment of People with Disabilities


This course is designed for US participants as it refers to US legislation. Note: This is not the FL APD Pre-Service Course. IMPORTANT: Online courses must be pre-paid for access. STUDENTS WILL HAVE 2 WEEKS OF COURSE ACCESS. ALL ACTIVITIES AND POST-TESTS MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF ACCESS TO QUALIFY FOR A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION. Again, there are no extensions available. Course access ends automatically. This Orientation course consists of readings, web-based activities, web-based discussion, and a timed post-test. A certificate of completion will be presented to participants who successfully complete all course pages and requirements and pass the post-test with a score of at least 70%.

This course is self-paced. In this course you will be introduced to the importance of employment to people with disabilities, a group historically with the highest unemployment rate in the country. You will also learn about some of the unique obstacles they face in getting hired and succeeding at work.

Course Description You will discover the history leading up to supported employment, how the process of supported employment works, the current outcomes it has produced, and what legislation, regulations and funding governs it. We will review of the roles of some key players in making supported employment happen, the job seeker, his or her family, and the employment specialist, as well as the job seekers rights to services and non-discrimination.
